Fact # 6 : This is (Probably) the Best Football Road Trip Ever

The 1899 University of the South (now Sewanee) football team had a ridiculously amazing season. The team went 12-0, outscoring opponents 322 to 10. A majority of the 12 opponents they faced eventually turned into national powers, including Texas, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia and Auburn. But what sets this team apart was the six day, 2500 mile road trip by train, from November 9th -14th. They played, beat and shutout, Texas on the 9th, Texas A&M on the 10th, Tulane on the 11th, LSU on the 13th, and Ole Miss on the 14th. Granted, football may have been a little different back then than todays game, but without modern medicine and equipment, that is one long road trip.
